Thieves Oil
1 tsp. Cloves 2 small sprigs of Rosemary 1 large sprig of Eucalyptus 2 Cinnamon Sticks broke in half 1/3 of a Lemon Peel Oil of choice, preferably Olive Oil, or Grapeseed Oil
This recipe is for pint jar measurements because that is what is pictured below, however you can use as much or as little as you like, we are essentially making an infusion, so those recipes are to your personal liking. You will just add all to the jar, and cover with oil. You can strain the liquid if you’d like, I’m one to leave infusions as long as I can without straining them, I love the rustic look of all my jars on the shelf. Don’t forget to label your jar with the name and date when you’re finished, and please enjoy the back story of Thieves Oil below!!
A combination of Clove, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Cinnamon, and Lemon, Thieves Oil dates back to the 14th century, although there are many versions of the history of Thieves Oil it's potent and beneficial properties still hold true as one of the best oils you can have in your household! During the time of the bubonic plague, there were said to be thieves that robbed the homes and the graves of the dead. When caught, they were offered leniency by the king if they shared the secret on how they haven't contacted the disease themselves. Turns out they were spice traders, and perfume merchants, dousing their bodies in a special blend, and thus thieves oil was born.
This oil in it’s essential form can be used for just about anything from ailments, to household uses. You can ingest it, use topically, and diffuse into the air. It's antimicrobial properties can aid in healing and prevent further infection. Some common uses include cold and flu, viruses and bacteria, cold sores, toothache, cuts and scrapes, its great for immune support, to purify the air, can disinfect inside the home, it’s safe for children and pets.. really the possibilities are endless when it comes to Thieves Oil.
As I mentioned essential oils are pure, they are the best you can get, and you can use them and dilute them into anything, even a few drops in a glass of water. What you see pictured is an oil infusion, as you know, I like to make things myself, and although I love my Thieves essential oil, I had everything on hand so gave it a try!! I definitely recommend doing this if you don't have access to, or the budget for essential oils, as we all know they can get super pricey. This way you'll always have some on hand to use on the skin or in a salve, and you can make a tincture the same way to ingest when needed.
